In 2001, Meeker Cooperative Light & Power Association (MCLP) of Litchfield, MN, joined STAR, creating additional opportunities for expanded services.
Today
The member cooperatives (AEC, MCLP, REA, and TWEC) are electric distribution
cooperatives operating in the state of Minnesota. Each is an equal member
of STAR. The members chose this organizational structure to limit
liability, preserve control of their equity investment, and use non-member
revenues to reduce their own cost of services.
STAR is a Limited Liability Company registered in the State of Minnesota with their corporate office in Alexandria, MN. However, there are several STAR employees who travel regularly to or are based out of each of the member cooperatives. Cooperative employees, general managers, and CEOs interact closely with STAR management and employees.
Because STAR is owned by rural electric cooperatives, our management style, philosophies, and decision-making processes are heavily influenced by cooperative fundamentals. We understand the challenges faced by rural electric cooperatives as communicated through daily interaction with cooperative employees and through guidance provided by the STAR Board of Governors.
Board of Governors
The STAR Board of Governors develops guiding policies for the
Company and consists of three to nine members. The Board includes
experienced and qualified business and industry professionals. Each member
cooperative has two representatives on the Board – these positions are
currently held by a cooperative director along with the General Manager or
CEO of each member co-op.
Mission
STAR's mission is to implement technology solutions that enhance the
delivery and reliability of electricity.
